How to Eat More Plant-Based

Embrace the power of plants!

Eating vegetarian or vegan is not only good for you but it is also good for the planet. It's becoming increasingly easier to eat fewer animal products with more and more vegetarian and vegan brands on the market.

Whether you're struggling to make the change or you don't know where to start, here are Fooditive's Top Ten Tips to eat more plant-based.

1. Start Slow

Don't put too much pressure on yourself to make the change overnight - start by making one vegetarian or vegan recipe per week.

2. Meat Substitutes and Alternatives

Replace any meat with mushrooms, tofu, or tempeh. There are also multiple brands offering plant-based burger patties, schnitzels, meatballs, and way more! Our favourites are De Vegetararische Slager and Beyond Meat.

3. Plant-Based Milks

4. Other Dairy Alternatives

There are many options for vegetarians these days - you can still enjoy every part of your diet by simply replacing dairy with a milk-free alternative. Use margarine or olive oil instead of butter, make your own vegan cheese using cashews, and try milk-free ice creams.

Invest in your spice collection. Using the right spices not only makes your food taste great but it can mimic the flavour of any meat.

9. Buy Fresh

Buying fresh fruits and vegetables ensures that your meal will taste amazing. While canned foods are great too, they often lack flavour and this will make eating vegetarian meals dissatisfying.

10. Buy Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables

To get the best produce, always eat in season. Your meals will taste better and it's good for the environment.
