Introducing Vegan Casein: A Sustainable, Healthy, and Cruelty-Free Protein

Say goodbye to traditional lactose and animal-sourced ingredients. Say hello to Fooditive's Vegan Casein, a high-quality protein alternative.

Vegan Casein is Fooditive's latest innovative product, and it is a plant-based ingredient with the same functions as milk proteins.

In the European alternative protein market, pea protein is on the rise and is expected to grow up to 8,27% by 2025.

The best part about Fooditive's Vegan Casein? It is a healthy, sustainable, cruelty-free, and scalable ingredient that removes the negative impact of factory farming, lactose, hormones, and antibiotics. The production of the vegan casein is sustainable because it requires minimal land, water, and energy.

Our vegan casein supports the future of producing proteins without the dependence on animals. It can be used in milks, cheese, creams, ice creams, yoghurts, plant-based meats, and even glues and paints!

How is the ingredient produced?

For the development of vegan casein, GMO (genetically modified organisms) systems are used. We start by understanding the complexity of casein - a milk protein - and separating it into four types of casein (β-casein, κ-casein, α-S1-casein, and α-S2-casein). The next step involves copying the DNA structure of each casein into a yeast.

During a process of precision fermentation, the yeast is grown at the perfect temperature and is fed with peas, sugar, and vitamins. Once the feeding stops, the product is extracted as a powder. Because all traces of the yeast are removed at the end of the production process, the end-product - Fooditive's Vegan Casein - is GMO-free.

After production, it is ready to be used in a variety of food and beverage applications.

Are GMOs the future of food?

Fooditive strives for a reduction in food waste. This is a key element of our business model: to take third and fourth-grade fruits and vegetables and transform them into healthy, sustainable, and affordable ingredients. GMO-based food production helps to reduce food waste because these crops do not brown as easily as non-GMO crops. This means that less fruit will be thrown away based on its appearance.

The debate around genetically modified organisms is widespread and controversial. At Fooditive, we believe that it can be a vital part of our future on this planet. Not only does it allow more nutritious crops to be grown, but it has proven to be safe to consume and sustainable to produce. Although the end-product of our production process is GMO-free, we hope to educate people about the importance of these systems in creating healthy food and feeding the hungry.
