Rohan's Easy Daal दाल

Daal (दाल) is an Indian recipe, made with lentils. It comes in many variations: with pumpkins, with or without coconut milk, and even with meat. For Rohan's recipe, we will enjoy a quick and easy vegetarian version of this classic!


  • 1 tsp. olive oil

  • 2 onions

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 1 tsp. fresh ginger

  • ½ chilli

  • 2 tsp. turmeric

  • 2 tsp. garam masala

  • 200g dried red lentils

  • 1 can chopped tomatoes

  • 2 cups vegetable broth


  1. Chop onions, garlic, and chilli.

  2. Add olive oil to a pan and fry onions for roughly 5 minutes.

  3. Add garlic, ginger and chilli and cook for a few minutes.

  4. Sprinkle the turmeric and garam masala into the pan and cook.

  5. Combine lentils, canned tomatoes, and vegetable broth.

  6. Cook for 15-20 minutes.

  7. Serve with rice and fresh coriander.
