Sustainable New Year's Resolutions
Happy New Year! The Fooditive team is excited for all the opportunities that 2022 will bring and we hope you are too. In honour of the new year, we would like to share with you our top ten resolutions that are beneficial to you and our planet. Let's make this year all about sustainability.
1. Go Vegetarian
Try to eat at least 3 vegetarian meals a week. By starting slow, your body has time to adjust and you don't have to struggle to come up with new recipes. Read Food by Fooditive on our blog for vegetarian recipes.
2. Buy Second Hand
Fast fashion brands are contributing to climate change through the overuse of our natural resources and the exploitation of animals and workers. Buying clothes and other households items circumvents these negative effects.
3. Buy Local
Buying locally made products not only feeds the local economy, it also reduces carbon emissions associated with online purchases.
4. Bike, Walk, or Take Public Transport
Less cars on the road means less carbon emissions!
5. Zero-Waste
Embrace the zero-waste lifestyle by using vegetable scraps to make stock, carrying a reusable water bottle everywhere you go, and using old sheets as dish rags.
6. Upcycle
Transform old clothes into new items, wine bottles into cups, or plastic containers into plant holders.
7. Recycle
Separate your waste into several categories: plastic, cardboard/paper, glass, food waste, etc.
8. Reuse
It is especially important during the pandemic to consider buying a few reusable masks. Paper masks end up in landfills or the ocean which damages our natural environment.
9. Consume Less
Take shorter showers, turn off your lights during the day and use less heat during winter. Overconsumption leads to the breakdown of our climate.
10. Learn about Sustainability
If you find yourself with a lack of awareness, take a sustainability class or read articles to educate yourself on the importance of becoming sustainable.
